In Canada, all air operators are required to offer their flight attendants training during which they acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to intervene in the event of a medical emergency during a flight, unless exempted. Let’s do a check in.
According to the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), any airline must offer a for its employees, including flight attendants. In addition, the Flight Attendant Training Standard (TP 12296) indicates that the program must be validated by an accredited body or by Health Canada and approved by the Minister.
Its content must also be in accordance with the equipment present in the aircraft. At the end of the training, the student receives a certification which is valid for 3 years from the date of the end of the course.
Medical emergencies, whether at the level of airline employees or passengers, can occur during flight. It is therefore important for officers to be able to administer appropriate first aid to stabilize the victim’s condition until they arrive at a hospital. This optimizes his chances of survival and limits the risk of serious sequelae.
A CPR training precisely allows students to acquire the skills necessary to react and intervene at different levels:
It should be noted that the intervention of a first aider increases the chances of survival of a patient victim of a cardio-respiratory emergency by more than 20%.
