Intermediate/Standard First Aid and CPR/AED Level C (formerly Standard First Aid)
Formerly known as Standard First Aid and CPR/AED Level C.
This name change follows an official update by the Canadian Red Cross to align its program with the latest federal legislative requirements for first aid.
The course content, skills taught and certification remain essentially the same.
Important: This course is not equivalent to Workplace First Aid training, which falls exclusively under the program administered by the CNESST in Quebec.
Please also note that this course is not recognized by the Bureau de la sécurité privée (BSP) when certification specific to that organization is required.
Learn skills that save lives
This course will give you the knowledge and skills to respond effectively to an emergency involving an adult, child or infant.
You will learn how to:
- recognize an emergency;
- perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR);
- use an automated external defibrillator (AED);
- respond to choking;
- provide first aid for injuries, sudden illnesses and other medical emergencies.
The course is based on the latest Canadian Red Cross first aid guidelines and meets the CSA Z1210-17 – Intermediate level standard.
Blended learning (online + in class)
This course is offered in a blended format and has two parts.
1. Online portion (6 to 8 hours)
You complete the first portion entirely online, at your own pace. It includes videos, interactive exercises and scenarios to help you learn the essential concepts before your practical training day. Once you complete this portion, you will receive a temporary certificate of completion, which you must have to attend the in-class portion.
2. In-class portion (7 hours 30 minutes)
The second portion takes place in person and must be completed within six weeks of completing the online training. You will put what you have learned into practice through numerous exercises supervised by a certified Canadian Red Cross instructor.
You will practise:
- CPR for adults, children and infants;
- using an AED;
- clearing an obstructed airway;
- the recovery position;
- first aid techniques for common emergencies.
The goal is to build your confidence and ability to respond effectively in a real emergency. Remember to bring your temporary certificate of completion to your in-class training day.
After you register
Once your registration is complete, you will receive two emails:
- an email from Impact Santé confirming your registration for the in-class portion;
- an email from the Canadian Red Cross with your access details for the online learning platform.
The Canadian Red Cross email is usually sent within 24 to 72 hours.

Completion requirements
To receive your certification, you must:
- demonstrate proficiency in the skills taught;
- achieve a minimum score of 75% on the written assessment;
- actively participate throughout the course.
Certification
Upon successfully completing the course, you will receive an official certificate in Intermediate/Standard First Aid and CPR/AED Level C This certificate is valid for three years.
You can renew this certification through approximately 7 hours 30 minutes of in-class training.
